After the music video for HoneyWorks' character song "Kawaikute Gomen" ("Sorry for Being Cute") was released in November 2022, a dance challenge built around its blow-kiss and apologetic cheek-touch gestures took off on TikTok. A fan-made version had already started circulating in August 2022, and by December that year K-pop idols were posting their own versions, spreading the trend both in Korea and abroad.
