What does it mean?
In the 2001 film One Fine Spring Day, a line reportedly ad-libbed by Lee Young-ae to Yoo Ji-tae -- 'Would you like to eat ramyeon?' -- later got retold as 'Want to stay for ramyeon?' and became the go-to euphemism for asking someone on a date.
Where did it start?
In the 2001 film One Fine Spring Day, Eun-su (Lee Young-ae) tries to keep Sang-woo (Yoo Ji-tae) from leaving at her doorstep; the line is said to have originally been scripted as 'Want to have some coffee?' before Lee Young-ae ad-libbed it into 'Would you like to eat ramyeon?' This backstory resurfaced as a topic in April 2022 on an SBS film program. Because it conveys a wish to stay together without saying so directly, the euphemism became a widely used, almost idiomatic line in dating situations.
How is it used?
Can be quoted as a light joke when suggesting a date.
